About

The south's longest natural sandy beach (about 750 m), beneath the red volcano of Montaña Roja, and the wind capital of the Canaries. The steady trade winds draw kitesurfers and windsurfers from all over Europe; there's a dedicated kite zone on the beach and schools for beginners. Swimmers should expect wind and moderate waves, but there's a lifeguard, showers and a bohemian little town full of cafés.

Our tip

If you just want a swim, go in the morning before the wind picks up. The El Cabezo spot at the northern end is for experts only (rocks, currents).
