About

The red volcanic cone at the end of El Médano beach is a protected nature reserve with dunes and endemic plants. A short but steepish path of loose volcanic cinder leads to the summit (171 m), from where you can see the kitesurfers, La Tejita beach, the airport and Teide.

Our tip

It makes a good last stop before your flight – the airport is about 10 minutes away. Stay on the marked paths, as the reserve protects the fragile dune vegetation, and bring a windproof jacket.
