About

Tenerife's first capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999: its grid plan from the early 16th century became the model for colonial cities in Latin America. The flat, pedestrianised streets of San Agustín and Obispo Rey Redondo are lined with colourful mansions, convents and cafés, dominated by the cathedral and the tower of the Iglesia de la Concepción.

Our tip

It's a few degrees cooler here and rains more often than in the south – bring a jumper. Leave the car on the edge of the centre; La Laguna is about 20 minutes from Anaga, and the tram takes you down to Santa Cruz.
