About

The final stretch from La Rambleta to the crater follows the Telesforo Bravo trail – short but steep (up to 60% in places) and entirely above 3,500 m. Since January 2026 it has been managed by the Cabildo through the Tenerife ON portal: permits are issued in your name, tied to a specific day and time, and each person may hold only one booking within any 15-day period. At the crater you'll see fumaroles and, on a clear day, the whole archipelago.

Our tip

Compulsory kit is checked – walking boots, long trousers and a fleece or warm jacket – or you won't be allowed up. If you can't get a permit, spend the night at the Refugio de Altavista (refugioaltavista.com, open again after renovation since 20 July 2026) and climb for sunrise, or book an organised ascent with permit and cable car through Volcano Teide (from €178).
