About
A black-sand beach designed by César Manrique as a garden – set among palms, flowers and lava rocks. At its far end stands the Castillo de San Felipe fort, with the summit of Teide rising behind it on a clear day. The sea tends to be livelier, but breakwaters create sheltered swimming areas.
Our tip
Check the current status before you swim – in 2026 the beach was temporarily closed four times because of poor water quality, most recently on 7–9 October.
