About

The island's oldest holiday resort has kept the feel of a fishing town: the Plaza del Charco with its huge trees, the La Ranilla fishermen's quarter with its street art, the little harbour, and the promenade out to the Castillo San Felipe fort and the black-sand Playa Jardín. A short way from the centre are the botanical garden, the Lago Martiánez pools and Loro Parque.

Our tip

The north is cloudy more often than the south, but the town is pleasant even without sunshine. If you have a whole day in the north, spend the morning in La Orotava and the afternoon here.
