About
The island's capital is a lively port city, not a resort. Highlights include Santiago Calatrava's futuristic Auditorio de Tenerife, the García Sanabria park with its fountains and sculptures, the Plaza de España with its pool, and the colourful Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África market with fruit, fish and tapas bars. In February it hosts one of the biggest carnivals in the world.
Our tip
Leave the car in one of the public car parks in the centre and explore on foot or by tram, which runs all the way to La Laguna. The golden-sand beach of Las Teresitas is about 15 minutes away.
