About
The TF-24 runs along the island's spine from La Esperanza, above La Laguna, to the Izaña observatory and on into Las Cañadas. It opens up views to both the north and the south, often over a sea of clouds with Teide in the background – the best-known stops are the Chipeque and Ortuño viewpoints and the colourful road cutting known as La Tarta. Some of the forest along the road was scarred by the major wildfire of August 2023.
Our tip
Ideal as your route home from the north: climb from La Laguna up the TF-24 to Teide, then drop down to the south via Vilaflor. Parking at the viewpoints is limited and the Cabildo is planning visitor controls here – park only in marked bays.
